Have you ever looked at your life like a winding road?
The past is something that’s familiar and therefore tempting to look back on.
The present only lasts a moment but feeds endlessly into our spontaneous side …
And the future is that winding road ahead that you think you can see but the actual visual is an optical illusion.
It’s an illusion because the future ahead is actually much farther in the distance than any human eye can see.
What if we could visualize your future and then work your way backwards on how you’ll get there?
I do this often when I try to map out my road of dreams.
In fact, I’ve been able to be very specific with this through practice and the more definitive I can be, the more successful the journey becomes.
Sure, you have to be flexible because every road through your life requires many adjustments in order to make real progress.
It’s messy and slippery at times. Just like a real road, there are bumps and blocks and all kinds of unexpected obstacles.
Mapping your road takes bravery and intelligence. You’ll certainly find that committing to your vision is significantly important.
The real trick to influencing your own direction is believing in yourself. If you have doubts, there is typically something palpable behind that feeling. Your intuition could be telling you that your unprepared or your directional compass may be off.
Try to visualize your ideal outcome and work backwards on how you’ll get there. For me, this step involves learning as much as I can about what I want to accomplish. I look for mentors who are paving the road, educational resources that add insights and sustenance to help me make better decisions.
Depending on the timeline, you’ve got to bring in all these factors so that you can make the best decisions available to you.
Honestly, at the end of the day, you can’t avoid paying your dues. You can’t learn everything second hand and remember that your journey is going to be slightly different than any one elses, especially if your ideas for your future are unique and visionary.
What can you do today that is going to get you closer to your goal?
Ask yourself this daily. …
Don’t obsess over what it should include or how it should look, just get what you do know down on paper and keep making changes until it makes sense to you.
Read it over and commit to it memory. Put it on a white board and make sure you see it and review it every single day.
Be true to yourself and remember this..
Life is a journey that must be traveled and we are all on our own paths so don’t compete with anyone else or look to anyone else to make your decisions for you.
Celebrate every milestone and remember to use a pencil when you draw your map because things can always change. And doesn’t that just make it all the more exciting ?
