The Sanctity of a Watercolor Journal
What’s inside an artists Sketchbook
As the winter flurries start to fall, it’s time to say farewell for now to my outdoor painting perch and head indoors to my cozy studio retreat.
The first snow fall seems to signal my brain to set aside hours for one-on-one painting sessions with my sketchbooks. I find solace in this peaceful corner of my studio, where time seems to stand still.
For me, there is a much different feeling to my Winter painting. The Joy of Winter Painting is always exciting for me perhaps as one of my favorite ways to embrace this season. The Magic of Watercolor in Winter brings with it a sense of coziness and an opportunity to indulge in indoor activities with hot coffee and my dogs hibernating next to me.
As an artist, retreating into my studio, armed with my new sketchbooks, to create beautiful artworks that capture the essence of my thoughts and visions is all the inspiration I need.
The soft brush strokes and mesmerizing flow of watercolors bring a sense of tranquility and joy to my creative process. But who wouldn’t feel exhilarated to get started with a cozy corner filled with supplies.
The Sanctity of a Watercolor Journal
For any artist, a watercolor journal holds a special place of reverence. It is within these pages that creativity comes to life and the stories of our art unfold. Each turn of the page breathes new life into our work, renewing our inspiration with every stroke of the brush. The journal serves as both a visual record of our artistic journey and a sanctuary for our thoughts and ideas.
Exploring the Magic of Watercolor
Watercolor is a medium that possesses a unique charm and versatility. With the right techniques and a little experimentation, it allows artists to capture the delicate nuances of winter scenes. Whether it's painting snowflakes gently falling from the sky or the serene beauty of frozen landscapes, watercolor has the power to bring these images to life on paper.
Last year I captured some beautiful moments using monochromatic studies of granulating colors. I put all the videos into a class available online called Granulating Watercolor for Beginners - found through my website Jacquelinejax.com
This year I wanted to expand on this process and explore more textures, unique supplies and perhaps even a looser style surrounding the theory of abstraction.
Nurturing Creativity in Winter
Winter can sometimes be a challenging season for artists, with limited outdoor subjects and shorter daylight hours. However, it is during these times that we can delve deeper into our imagination and explore new artistic avenues. Exploring different watercolor techniques, experimenting with various color palettes, and pushing the boundaries of our creativity can result in unexpected and awe-inspiring artworks.
As the winter season embraces us with its cold winds and snowy landscapes, it presents a unique opportunity for artists to retreat into the cozy corners of their studios. With sketchbooks in hand, we can unlock the magic of watercolor and create artworks that capture the essence of this serene season. So, let us embrace the joy of winter painting and allow our imaginations to soar on the wings of watercolor.
